Southwest Jiao tong university, which was founded in 1896, is the first national "211 project", "985 project" key construction, and  the first  national key university directly under the ministry of education "2011 project" with graduate school,. It locates in national historical culture city and modern international metropolis - Chengdu. Southwest Jiao tong university has entitled "shanhaiguan northern railway officer school", "Tangshan Jiao tong university", "Tangshan railway institute", etc., it is known as "the cradle of Chinese railway engineers" and "east Cornell", It has cultivated some three hundred thousand graduates represented people like MAO yisheng, Tongyan Lin, Zhu Kezhen who has made significant contribution to the development of national rejuvenation and affluence especially in rail transit. This University has established nearly 30 provincial level and above science and technology innovation bases which takes the national laboratory on rail transportation as the representative, These bases are around the track traffic areas which have formed a large scale, high level, key research base cluster. southwest Jiao tong university support China's rail transportation`s historic leap from scratch, from weak to strong as the most important factor in the development of rail transit and one of the largest high-education colleges in China, It has created thousands of "China's first", "world first"  in the development of rail transit. From the construction of our country's first independent design-Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway which was charged  by Youtian Zhang , From the construction of universally acknowledged most complex engineering geological conditions-- ChengKun railway construction to put the qinghai-tibet railway construction into operation in July 2006,; From the successful design of the first internal combustion engine cars and electric locomotives since the liberation of our country  to the world's first manned HTS maglev test vehicle; rom the success of the first ten thousand tons of heavy-duty train running the trial to China's first manned maglev project demonstration line alignment success; From the subway design and construction of all cities in China to the famous Hangzhou bay bridge--donghai bridge; From the beijing-tianjin inter-city railway and wuhan-guangzhou passenger dedicated line to the highest technical standards of the Beijing-shanghai high speed railway in the world, and China's first train load Wi-Fi...As the optimal and strongest comprehensive university in  rail transportation field, the school has built up the service "area" at present, It has built the coordinated development and regional circle development strategies like the Yangtze river economic belt ,beijing-tianjin-Hebei, tianfu new area, the chengdu-chongqing economic zone, chengdu-chongqing expressway western countries such as Kunduz. Also, it has made contribution to the development of the national rail transit enterprise and has built “three systems”: science discipline, talents, scientific research, which vigorously promote engineering development, symbol of science and liberal arts prosperity, life covers "four plans", it has become the first-class comprehensive traffic construction research university with distinct characteristics.
